The Hellp, the two man band who brought art back to music in the year 2024. The Hellp released their album with blends of electronic music, synth pop, even creating their own sound called Indietronical. This album was made specifically to hook the listener in and have the whole album on repeat in their heads. They were able to achieve exactly that. The 45 minute album is full of groundbreaking hyper, surprising and confusing beats. But that is exactly what brought it to life.
Noah Dillon, age 31 met Chandler Lucy, the now producer for the duo at a photoshoot in 2015. A new Noah was a photographer before they met and continues to emulate this part himself through his music videos that have depth to them. Noah is the vocalist and music lyricist for the gand. As they grew, they had artists like 2 Hollis produce parts of their music. They took time to make their extraordinary album LL that showcases their versatility, sound and skill. I the past ehwere made popular songs like SS and TuTu Neurotic which was the blueprint for the sound they have now.
This album is a mix of synth pop and electropop and experiments with loud sounds too. They explore ideas of feeling left out, broken homes and falling behind. What I believe separates this album from others is their lyrics and production, using unique pounds to create new sounds, making their music feel nostalgic. Noah’s voice sounds like a 2000’s rock band that makes it feel heartfelt too.
This album has so many hits it is clear with three shine the brightest. First is, “Go Somewhere” The beginning starts off with the sound of a ping pong ball dropping, then divers into a synth clashing, dubstep and catchy lyrics. This song reminds me of being excited to go to a place all day and when you get there, it is clear that it doesn’t meet your expectations and you are ready to leave. The songs are energizing and motivating, huge bangers and extremely catchy, exploring themes of control and memories. Other memorable songs include Stunn, which really stunned me, it feels like the ultimate dance song. Some runners up include Rllynice and Kill4me, another catchy song filled with large beats.
Overall, the album is perfect to dance to to dry to or even to do both. I wish I saw more variety, would love to see them try an acoustic song and maybe not repeat choruses again and again, an example being Halo, where they repeat, “like a Halo, lay low”….catchy but old.
Noah and Chandler had the right idea to work together. Fans of EDM, electronic and pop music will love this album. I give it a 10/10 for its experimental beats and stimulating songs.
