Day of the Dead comes to Life

On the second of November the holiday of Day of the Dead occurs. Day of the Dead is a holiday in which you honor those that are deceased; one of the most prominent ways of honoring the dead is making Altars for them , people decorate these altars with pictures, the favorite food and drink of the person, and telling others in the family about the person in stories, some stories make you laugh, others make you angry, and others can make you cry, but in the end, it is a great way to retell this person’s life in order to keep them alive in your heart and memories… On 11/2/25 I got the opportunity to go to the Day of the Dead festival in Oakland, this was an amazing festival that really helped me see the traditions that even I had missed. There were many different things to see and do, but the two things that really stood out to me were the traditional Aztec dancing and the altars that people had out to honor their families. I was there for about two hours and was able to see everything they had to offer from the aforementioned dancing and altars to the various stalls that were up to advertise different businesses. All in all, this was an amazing event that I wish I had known about before so that I could have gone in the past years, I really recommend this to anyone who wants to experience Day of the Dead in a different light, or just want something to do for fun!
