Gilmore Girls is one of those shows that drew me in. It follows Rory Gilmore, who is a total bookworm, and her mother Lorelai, who’s more like her best friend than a parent. They live in Stars Hollow, which is a small, cozy town that knows everybody and their business.
I love this show because it feels cozy and safe. Watching it is like stepping into Stars Hollow–drinking coffee at Luke’s, going to the town events, and living that small town dream. Rory’s passion for reading, excelling in school, and achieving her goals makes me want to work harder at school, and I love Lorelai’s quick humor, which ends up in me stealing her jokes and personality.
But with every show, it has its flaws. Rory doesn’t always make the best choices (especially when it comes to relationships). Some examples are her cheating, getting arrested, and her being very ignorant and entitled. And Lorelai can be very dramatic at times and sometimes not take problems seriously and act like a child. Some of the episodes do feel slow, and sometimes the characters make decisions that make you want to yell at your TV screen. However, that’s what makes the show interesting. The characters feel more realistic if you give them flaws, instead of making them into characters that can do no wrong.
Even with its flaws, Gilmore Girls is a show I’ll always come back to. It’s funny, cozy, frustrating, and dramatic all at once. That mix is exactly what makes it so addicting—and why it will always be one of my favorites.
