For many young people, voting for the first time is an exciting but overwhelming experience. The student said, “I had always thought of when it would be my turn while watching elections; when it became my turn, it felt surreal.”
But the student wasn’t the only one voting for the first time. Sharing their milestone with their sister, who was also casting their first vote, made the moment much more memorable. Together they felt a sense of happiness knowing it will grow into a special memory.
To avoid the hassle of the long line on Election Day, the students chose to vote early by mail. explaining that voting on election day would have been stressful. The decision of mailing their ballots was a simple yet rewarding act, allowing them to engage in the process with ease.
While voting for the president and vice president is exciting, voting for the Emeryville City Council stood out the most. Thanks to the research they had gathered in their U.S. Government class, they had thoroughly studied the candidates. Feeling confident in their decision. They expressed that this experience was a reminder that change began at the community level and that letting your voice be heard, no matter the result, was important.
Although the results were disappointing for them, they felt proud of fulfilling their part. Looking forward to the upcoming election to make their voice heard.
