As college applications start, most high school seniors are applying to in-state colleges, with fewer students interested in applying to out-of-state schools. Many students prefer to stay close to home and attend UC schools. Staying near home meaning they have access to a support system, which students might find better. UC schools also have an excellent academic reputation and a diverse community.
Another reason students are focusing on in-state colleges is the limited information they have about out-of-state schools. They say that they often hear more about state schools, making it difficult for them to consider applying out-of-state.
Even though most students are applying to in-state schools. Many have chosen to apply to one or two out-of-state schools to keep their options open. These choices allow them to explore new environments and opportunities.
In a few weeks, the senior class are taking a college tour, visiting many campuses around the state. The tour will give students a chance to explore and get a glimpse of school options and make the choices of where they will be applying. Many seniors are excited to learn more about the colleges in California.
Another way to learn about colleges and what colleges are perfect for you is by talking to Ms. Kayla, our college counselor, by making an appointment. You can do this by scanning the QR code on the posters you see in the hallway.
As the application process continues, we wish all seniors the best of luck in applying, whether to an out-of-state school or one closer to home.
